English Café

Leader: Roslyn

I have interacted with people my entire working career—in the field of banking, as Public Relations & Event Co-ordinator at the Kitchener Public Library and, most recently, with Toastmasters.  I saw my own parents struggle to fit in and deal with the challenge of learning English when they immigrated to Canada after WWII.  Having lived in this community for over 50 years, I am familiar with many of its programs and organizations.  I enjoy meeting our Conversation Circle participants, learning about their culture, and helping them feel at home in Canada.

As an experienced ESL instructor, I am dedicated to helping newcomers to Canada acquire the English skills they need to be successful in their education, employment, and community.  I enjoy welcoming individuals from around the world to our English Café sessions, where ESL participants can interact with native English speakers in a warm, friendly atmosphere.  Most of my professional experience has involved working with international students who wish to attend a North American college or university.  I have taught numerous courses in oral communication, pronunciation, writing, and grammar.  I love to teach and learn from my students, who have come from an array of cultural backgrounds, and I strive to understand and meet their language needs while providing them with a comfortable learning environment.
